Whittington
Whittington by Alan Armstrong is a children's fantasy novel about a mysterious barn cat named Whittington who arrives at a barn filled with rescued animals. The cat becomes part of a small community that includes Bernie, his grandchildren Abby and Ben, and several farm animals. When Abby discovers that Ben struggles with reading, she begins helping him learn, while Whittington tells the animals the fascinating story of his ancestor's connection to Dick Whittington, a poor boy who travels to London and eventually finds success. By combining animal fantasy, family relationships, friendship, history, and the power of storytelling, the novel explores themes of hope, courage, resilience, literacy, and belonging.
